A:
Our Palm Audio player DONOT play midi files ( which are simple
tunes). However we play much more complex audio files used by
desktop computers like .wave file used by Windows, au files used
by web pages etc. (Which are not only tunes, but real sounds from
real world like speeches, or musics )
If you want to play MIDI files directly, you need to convert your
midi files to audio files first. Sorry currently we do not have
such tools. But instead you can play any wave files or sound files
like songs from the Internet.
A:
The audio files, needs to be in either .wave files or .au files
(No mp3 it the current Version) --- If your files are in other
formats, you need to convert it using Windows' Sound Recorder
(sndrec32.exe) to convert it to .wave files. ( remember to choose
PCM format, 8 bit, mono, 8Khz or 11Khz), otherwise, audioplayer
will not recognize it. -- Or you can use Windows sound recorder
to record your own voice to create a wave file !!
Once you have prepared the audio files in the desktop, you need
to convert it to .pdb file before download to your palm.
A:
Because Palm doesnot recognize ANY PC files, you need to convert
the PC file into PALM recognizable file -- called .PDB file (palm
database file). this is what PDBConverter can do.
A:
PDBConverter is a Signed Java Applet so you can run it directly
from within our web site.
First you need a Java Enabled Internet Browser -- (Our recommended
platform is Windows IE5, other platform may work, but no guarantee)
You need to enable java applet in the browser.
Then got to www.netmite.com, click PDBConverter and wait a few
seconds until the applet popup.
In the PDBConverter Window, specify regular PC file you want to
convert from (like wave or au file ) and the output filename (palm
recognizable .pdb file, we recommend you to name it as xxxxx.wav.pdb
as xxxxx.au.pdb)
Remember to specify creator ID to be AUPL and file type to be
data. (which are default ) Then press the convert button to start
the conversion.
A:
There are many causes problems for PDBConverter. for example:
a). Your browser doesnot support Java or java support is disabled
-- Try enable java support first.
b). Your platform or browser is not compatible (For example, Macintosh
is not supported. Netscape support is working in progress. We
recommend you to use IE5 of Windows.
c). You need to grant the necessary priviledges when applet started.
Just click Yes or Grant. Otherwise, it may cause problem running
the applet.
d). You enterred the wrong input file name.
If All the above failes, we can send out a standalone PDBConverter
to registerred users if you request. Or you can send emails to:
support@netmite.com for detailed question. We suggest you to attach
a java log file from your browser. (Just open Java Console, and
copy the text displayed there)
A:
a) Use HotSync's Install software tools to install the pdb file
into your palm.
b) Do a hotsync.
c) Now start audioplayer and you should be able to see it.
A:
a) Select the file you want to delete from the list
b) Choose Menu/Delete command
A:
Due to palm CPU's limit, current version of palm audio player
cannot play mp3 directly. However, You can convert your MP3 file
to a WAVE file or au file first, one of such tools are at
http://www.convert-mp3-to-wav.com/. (In the future we will provide
a conversion utility in our web site.)
then you can follow the FAQ "How to create my own Audio Files"
A:
Palm audio player has been tested in many platforms but in case
you still has problems, please send report to support@netmite.com.
We appreciate your help and can give you some discount for future
products.
One common cause is that your audio file has too much sample rates
(such as 22050Hz or 44010Hz) which are OK to be played by our
audioplayer but it will consumes ALL CPU resources. Thus the system
becomes extremely slow --- or no response at all since all the
CPU are busy playing your sound at such a high sample rate. You
have to wait until the sound is played 5 times to quit the program.
Solution: use Sound Converter(sndrec32) to convert your file into
lower samplerates such as 11025Hz or 8000Hz
A:
If there exists a pdb with the same name in your palm, your newly
created .pdb file will not be hotsynced to your palm.
Note: In palm, a pdb's name is hardcoded into the pdb file itself,
The name is generated from when you use PDBConverter and it is
copied from the original .wav or .au file. Once converted, the
pdb name is fixed. Even if you rename it under PC, the pdb name
will still remains the same. -- In order to change the pdb name,
you need to rename the original .wav or .au file and then use
PDBConverter to convert to a .pdb file ! Future PDBConverter may
provide a option to change pdb name during conversion.

Some Palm Devices does not have real speakers but pizeos. Piezos
are not a good idea to reproduce multiple frequencies. Every piezo
has a unique way to reproduce certain frequencies, depending on
resonance. At this 'sympathetic vibration' it gives the best results,
especially regarding the volume (sound pressure). So depends on
your palm model, you may get different level of audio effect.
This is HARDWARE limits and no good software solutions.
Please try your palm first before purchasing if you have questions.
Sound effects:
BEST
TRGPRO -- real speakers, can be very loud indeed.
GOOD
visor platinum, palm m100. -- good quality.
sony
POOR
palm III, IIIx -- noises
palm V, VII -- low volume

Our PDBConverter is a digitally signed. The digital certificate
is from THAWTE, acquired by verisign, Internet's biggest security
company. so that it is as secure as any plug-ins you downloaded/installed
from Internet ! To some extends, it is more secure than some .zips
you downloaded from Internet because most of .zip are NOT SIGNED
!
If you are really concerned about your security, then, for registered
user, we would be very happy to send an offline converter on request.
